Our Goal

Why? Reconnecting, replaying and reminiscing can create hope, happiness and good health from the first to the final whistle.

How? The foundation helps fund and facilitate a social network of local community owned and operated sporting memories clubs. We can provide face-to-face and online training for club captains and champions, ongoing support and resources for club committees.

What? Club fixtures typically lasts between 90-120 minutes, including a 10-15 minute half-time (tea) break. The first half is a time for sports lovers of a similar vintage to reconnect and to reminiscence through the sharing of stories/memories. The second half can either mirror the first half (more talking) or include a bit of light, non-intensive recreation (some fun games/activities). Ideally, these fixtures should be run at the same time, and in the same place, every week.

Who? Sporting Memories Clubs connect local sports lovers, with a particular focus on those aged 50 and over living with dementia, depression and/or loneliness. The ideal size for a single weekly fixture is 12, with 15 being the maximum number. Clubs with more members can run more than one fixture per week.

Where & When? Clubs provide a regular time and an easily accessible arena for members to come together, at least once a week. This could be a community/seniors hall, a sports club, a library, an RSA. Members require a room with enough chairs and access to bathrooms. Kitchen facilities are a bonus.
